For many families, during this time of Covid-19, being stuck in the house has created more tension in tweens’ daily lives. It is completely understandable that your tween would appear to be feeling extra moody, irritable, and frustrated when they are restricted from playing with other peers or attending school like they had previously. I help tweens’ navigate transitions, turbulent times, and unpack the emotions that are hard to do alone. In session, I work with your tween to develop helpful coping skills, social skills, and communication skills. We have strengths in working with tweens who experience anxiety, perfectionism, learning disabilities, chronic illness, and family discord.
Being the age of 10-14 can be incredibly awkward and difficult to navigate. If your child is experiencing hardships, frustrations, and difficulty coping with everyday life stressors, therapy can be a wonderful tool to help support their growth. Learning coping skills, social-skills, and emotion identification can radically increase tweens’ self-awareness and maturation. At this age it is often encouraged to engage your tween in multiple extra-curricular activities and social commitments with friends. Social and physical engagements are frequently prioritized leaving little to no room for emotional exercise. Therapy can be a great place for a tween to gain validation for how they are feeling, and safely unpack the things that have them feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable. In session, your tween can learn and practice skills to express themselves in a healthy way. This can help guide them to independently identify the emotions they are experiencing, while learning how to safely process and express difficult feelings.
Children between the ages of 10-14 can learn and use these tools to productively communicate their wants and needs at school, home, and with friends.
